Robot Vacuum Suction Pa Explained: Why the Biggest Number Does Not Automatically Win
Understand what robot-vacuum Pa figures can and cannot tell you, and why brush design, floor contact, exact-model testing, navigation and physical fit can matter more.

How much should I care about a robot vacuum's Pa figure compared with brush design, floor handling, navigation, mopping and dock reliability?
Robot-vacuum suction claims now span a very wide range. In PIQSY's current Australian set, stable manufacturer specifications include examples from 6,000Pa to 36,000Pa.
Sorting those numbers from largest to smallest is not a defensible cross-brand cleaning ranking.

What Pa actually measures
Pa—pascals—is a pressure unit.
Robot-vacuum manufacturers use it to describe maximum suction pressure under their own test conditions. The figure can be a legitimate exact-model specification.
It is not a standardised floor-cleaning score that makes one brand's 30,000Pa directly comparable with another brand's 18,000Pa as a simple performance ratio.
Why real pickup depends on more than peak pressure
Floor pickup also depends on:
- brush design and contact with the surface;
- airflow and intake geometry;
- hair-wrap control;
- debris-path shape;
- carpet pile and sealing;
- edge-brush behaviour;
- navigation coverage;
- software power modes;
- whether the robot can physically reach the dirty area.
A robot with a larger maximum Pa claim can therefore be the worse fit—or even the worse cleaner—for a particular floor and debris problem.

The current canonical set includes:

PIQSY records those as manufacturer specifications. None receives a direct Product Fit bonus merely for having the larger number.
MOVA E40 Ultra is a useful source-conflict example
MOVA's current Australian E40 Ultra page is internally inconsistent: headline/specification copy states 19,000Pa, while a footnote on the same page refers to 18,000Pa.
PIQSY preserves the conflict rather than choosing the larger figure.
More importantly, suction is excluded from E40's recommendation logic. Its verified dock workflow, 97mm body, 22mm crossing figure and 10.5mm mop lift are more useful decision inputs.
Independent testing is a different evidence layer
X8 Pro OMNI illustrates the difference well.
Its 18,000Pa manufacturer figure is not what supports the strong pet-hair/vacuum role. Exact-model independent testing does—and that same testing also preserves weaker obstacle-avoidance and mixed dried-stain findings.
Aqua10 Ultra Roller is another example. Its 30,000Pa figure does not prove premium mopping. Its roller/guard/threshold architecture plus exact-model hands-on testing provide the stronger evidence.
A bigger Pa figure with weaker evidence should not automatically leapfrog either product.
Physical constraints can make Pa irrelevant
If an 81mm T50 fits under a sofa and a 119mm Curv 2 Flow does not, the suction numbers do not rescue the taller robot.
If a Saros 20 clears a required 45mm single threshold and another product cannot, peak pressure is again secondary.
Fit should follow the real failure mode in the home.
When Pa can still be useful
Within the same brand, closely related architecture and generation, a changed suction specification can help identify a different motor/platform tier.
It can also be useful technical context alongside independent testing.
It becomes misleading when treated as a universal cross-brand leaderboard across robots with different brushes, mops, docks, navigation and floor-contact systems.
Better questions than “which has the most Pa?”
Ask:
- Is the home mostly carpet, hard floor or mixed?
- Is pet hair a recurring problem?
- Is there exact-model pickup evidence?
- How is wet-mop hardware separated from carpet?
- Does the robot fit under the required furniture?
- Can it cross the actual threshold geometry?
- What dock maintenance do I want?
- Is camera hardware acceptable?
Those questions can legitimately reverse the shortlist. A Pa leaderboard cannot.
