Choose the Roborock Saros 20 when the home itself is the difficult part: its 79.8mm body and 45mm verified single-step capability give it the stronger geometry case. Its larger 88mm claim applies only to specified double-layer geometry.

Choose the Dreame X50 Ultra when 89mm retracted clearance is enough and the recurring problems are pet hair, mixed floors and keeping wet mops away from long-pile carpet. X50's automatic mop removal, anti-tangle brush architecture and 42mm single-step capability make it a different kind of specialist rather than a simple older-versus-newer decision.

What changes the choice

79.8mm versus 89mm is a real physical difference

Saros 20 is 79.8mm high.

X50 Ultra reaches 89mm with its VersaLift navigation sensor retracted and is 111mm with the sensor raised.

If the lowest required opening sits between those two practical clearance bands, Saros can reach a place X50 cannot. If both fit comfortably, the height advantage stops being important and the floor-care architecture should decide the purchase.

Saros has the higher verified single-step figure

Saros 20's canonical single-step figure is 45mm.

X50 Ultra's verified single-step figure is 42mm.

Those are the numbers to use for an isolated vertical rise.

Saros also has an 88mm compound claim under specified two-layer geometry, while X50 has a 60mm multi-stage figure under its own stated geometry. Neither compound number means the robot can climb one vertical wall of that total height.

Measure the actual transition and classify the geometry before comparing headline numbers.

X50 has the stronger carpet-separation architecture

X50 supports automatic mop removal for long-pile carpet and also has a 10.5mm mop-lift specification.

That is structurally different from merely lifting wet mop hardware a small distance while it remains on the robot.
