Large homes create two separate robot-vacuum problems: coverage and mobility. A long-running robot still fails if it cannot reach the next room, and a threshold specialist is not automatically the best large-home cleaner.

First classify the threshold correctly

A single vertical lip is not the same as a two-stage or multi-stage door track.

PIQSY stores those geometries separately because adding two smaller rises together does not prove a robot can climb one vertical rise of the combined height.

Saros 20 is verified at 45mm for a single step.

Its larger 88mm figure applies only to specified double-layer geometry of roughly 45mm + 43mm. It must not be rewritten as an 88mm vertical-wall capability.

The same robot is also only 79.8mm high, so it is unusually strong when both threshold mobility and low furniture matter.

Dreame X50 Ultra: 42mm single step plus mixed-floor hardware

X50 Ultra is verified at 42mm for a single step and up to 60mm only under stated multi-stage geometry.

Its reason to beat Saros is not the threshold number. It is the broader mixed-floor package: 89mm retracted height, automatic mop removal for long-pile carpet and HyperStream anti-tangle hardware.

Choose X50 when those recurring floor/pet problems matter more than Saros' extra 3mm of verified single-step capability.

Its 80mm headline applies only to specified double-layer geometry. The larger compound number does not make it a better isolated-step climber than X50.

T90 Pro OMNI: conventional single step with multi-stage flexibility

T90's current canonical record states 24mm single-step and a conditional 40mm multi-stage figure.

Large-home coverage is a separate decision

Manufacturer runtime is useful context, not a guarantee of how much floor a robot will clean in your home.

Multi-level homes are not a threshold problem

None of these robots autonomously climbs a staircase between storeys.

A multi-level home still requires a deliberate carrying/mapping/dock workflow. Threshold capability should not be confused with floor-to-floor mobility.

A practical buying sequence

  1. Measure the hardest transition.
  2. Decide whether it is a single step or a staged track.
  3. Eliminate robots without sufficient exact-model evidence for that hard constraint.
  4. Measure critical furniture clearance.
  5. Check whether the home is carpet-led, hard-floor-led or genuinely mixed.
  6. Compare dock workflow and runtime only after the robot can physically reach the areas that matter.
