Decision reasoning

Why the choice changes.

The decision

Both are high-refresh performance Android tablets, but they occupy different physical and hardware tiers. Xiaomi Pad 7 keeps the package to 11.2 inches and 500g. OnePlus Pad 3 moves to a 13.2-inch workspace, Snapdragon 8 Elite, 16GB memory and 512GB storage at 675g.

Choose Xiaomi Pad 7 when portability and enough performance matter more than the highest hardware ceiling.

Choose OnePlus Pad 3 when the larger canvas, flagship processor, 16GB memory and 512GB storage are capabilities you will actually use.

PIQSY also has a separately verified OnePlus Pad 3 12GB/256GB sibling ASIN, but this article continues to compare Xiaomi against the canonical 16GB/512GB OnePlus reference. The sibling is not substituted into the comparison without a separately governed controlled-comparison brief.

What changes the choice

The 175g weight gap is a real usability difference

Xiaomi Pad 7 weighs 500g and uses an 11.2-inch display. OnePlus Pad 3 weighs 675g with a 13.2-inch display.

The OnePlus provides much more screen area for desk use, split-screen and media. Xiaomi is easier to carry, hold and use away from a desk. A buyer should decide whether the larger canvas is a repeated benefit rather than treating screen size as an automatic upgrade.

OnePlus owns the higher performance ceiling

Xiaomi uses Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 with 8GB LPDDR5X and 256GB UFS 4.0. OnePlus uses Snapdragon 8 Elite with 16GB LPDDR5X and 512GB UFS 4.0 on PIQSY's exact canonical reference.

For demanding gaming, heavy multitasking and longer-horizon performance headroom, OnePlus has the stronger hardware case. For mainstream performance work, Xiaomi can provide ample capability without the larger chassis.

Both are high refresh, but neither is OLED

Xiaomi's 3200×2136 11.2-inch display adapts up to 144Hz. OnePlus uses a 3392×2400 13.2-inch LTPS LCD with adaptive refresh up to 144Hz.

This is therefore a size and workspace comparison more than a refresh-rate contest. Buyers requiring OLED should compare a different product rather than forcing either LCD tablet to satisfy that need.

OnePlus doubles the governed internal storage, but neither offers microSD

Xiaomi's exact reference has 256GB UFS 4.0. OnePlus has 512GB UFS 4.0 on PIQSY's canonical reference. Neither current governed AU specification provides microSD expansion.

OnePlus is the stronger choice for large fixed local storage. Buyers who explicitly require removable storage should choose an expandable-storage alternative instead of treating 512GB as equivalent to microSD.

Pen and keyboard remain separate purchases on both

Xiaomi supports Focus Pen and Focus Keyboard; OnePlus supports Stylo 2 and Smart Keyboard. None of those accessories is included in the exact governed tablet packages.

That means there is no pen-in-box winner here. Buyers planning a full keyboard/stylus setup should compare the configured accessory cost and ergonomics rather than the bare tablet alone.

Both provide USB 3.2-class wired connectivity

Both governed products support USB 3.2 Gen 1 / 5Gbps-class connectivity. Xiaomi notes the faster transfer mode requires a compatible cable.

This makes both more credible for repeated wired file transfer than USB 2.0 tablets. Operating-system compatibility remains a separate hard constraint.

Wireless connectivity is current on both

Xiaomi supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. OnePlus supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4.

Neither governed product provides native cellular connectivity. Cellular-required buyers therefore need another product regardless of the OnePlus wireless-generation advantage.

Battery capacity reflects the chassis size

Xiaomi uses 8850mAh with 45W charging support. OnePlus uses 12140mAh with up to 80W wired charging.

The OnePlus battery is much larger, but it also drives a larger display and more powerful platform. Capacity and charging wattage should not be converted into an unsupported real-world runtime winner without controlled comparison evidence.

OnePlus makes a stronger media-hardware case

OnePlus uses an eight-speaker system with four woofers and four tweeters. Xiaomi uses a quad-speaker Dolby Atmos arrangement.

For buyers who use the tablet as a large media device, OnePlus has a clearer hardware reason to step up. For travel or handheld media, Xiaomi's lower weight may matter more.

When Xiaomi Pad 7 is the better fit

Choose Xiaomi when:

  • 500g portability matters for commuting or handheld use;
  • Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 and 8GB/256GB already meet the workload;
  • an 11.2-inch high-refresh screen is large enough;
  • 256GB fixed storage is sufficient;
  • you do not need the OnePlus flagship performance ceiling.

When OnePlus Pad 3 is the better fit

Choose OnePlus when:

  • a 13.2-inch workspace materially improves productivity or media use;
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite and 16GB memory are useful for demanding workloads;
  • 512GB fixed internal storage is valuable;
  • the larger battery, faster charging and eight-speaker system matter;
  • carrying a 675g tablet is an acceptable trade-off.

When neither is the obvious fit

If OLED, microSD, cellular or an included pen is mandatory, neither governed product satisfies that requirement. If the workflow depends on iPadOS or Windows desktop software, settle the platform decision before comparing these Android tablets.

PIQSY conclusion

Choose Xiaomi Pad 7 when you want high-refresh Android performance in the more portable form. Choose OnePlus Pad 3 when the large canvas and flagship 16GB/512GB hardware ceiling materially improve the work.

The decision is less about which benchmark number is higher and more about whether you want to carry 500g of portable performance or 675g of large-screen headroom.
