Decision reasoning
Why the choice changes.
The decision
These tablets solve different versions of the performance-Android problem. Xiaomi Pad 7 keeps the high-refresh experience in an 11.2-inch, 500g chassis. Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 moves to a 13-inch matte 3.5K workspace, 12GB memory, microSD and an exact AU package with Pen Plus.
Choose Xiaomi Pad 7 when portability and a smaller high-refresh performance tablet matter most.
Choose Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 when the larger matte workspace, included Pen Plus and expandable storage materially improve study or productivity.
What changes the choice
11.2 inches versus 13 inches changes how the tablet is used
Xiaomi uses an 11.2-inch 3200×2136 display and weighs 500g. Lenovo uses a 13-inch 3504×2190 display and weighs around 598g.
The Xiaomi is easier to carry, hold and use away from a desk. The Lenovo gives documents, PDFs, split-screen apps and handwriting more room. Bigger is an advantage only when the workspace is useful enough to justify the extra size and roughly 98g of weight.
Both are high refresh; Lenovo adds a matte surface
Both governed products support refresh rates up to 144Hz. Xiaomi's 3:2 display reaches 800 nits peak and is built around a sharp portable performance experience. Lenovo's exact ZAHD0096AU package uses its Matte Edition / paper-like surface.
That makes Lenovo more directly suited to reflection-sensitive reading and annotation. Xiaomi is the cleaner choice when the buyer wants high refresh and resolution without prioritising a paper-like screen.
Neither is OLED. If OLED is a hard requirement, compare a different product rather than trying to award this pair an OLED winner.
Lenovo carries more reference memory; Xiaomi remains a strong mid-high-performance platform
Xiaomi's exact reference uses Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 with 8GB LPDDR5X and 256GB UFS 4.0. Lenovo uses Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 with 12GB LPDDR5X and 256GB UFS 4.0.
Lenovo has the stronger multitasking headroom on the governed references. Xiaomi remains a credible performance tablet, particularly when the workload benefits from a lighter chassis more than additional RAM.
Pen inclusion strongly favours the exact Lenovo package
Xiaomi supports Focus Pen, but it is sold separately. Lenovo's exact ZAHD0096AU Australian package includes Lenovo Tab Pen Plus.
A buyer who says pen-in-box matters therefore has a clear package difference. A buyer who rarely uses a stylus should not let an included accessory override size, software or performance fit.
microSD is a Lenovo-only advantage in this pair
Lenovo supports microSD up to 2TB. Xiaomi's governed AU Pad 7 evidence does not list expandable storage.
For buyers who require removable storage, Lenovo satisfies a requirement Xiaomi does not. For everyone else, both exact references already provide 256GB UFS 4.0 internal storage.
Wired connectivity is strong on both
Both products support USB 5Gbps-class wired connectivity. Lenovo explicitly adds DisplayPort-out in its current PSREF. Xiaomi's USB 3.2 Gen 1 capability requires a compatible cable for the faster transfer mode.
This pair is therefore materially stronger for wired transfers than USB 2.0 tablets. Buyers with a specific external-display requirement have a more explicit Lenovo evidence path.
Wireless specifications differ but neither offers governed cellular
Xiaomi supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.4. Lenovo supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. Neither governed product provides native cellular/WWAN.
If cellular is mandatory, neither is the correct fit regardless of their other advantages.
Battery capacity tracks the size difference
Xiaomi uses an 8850mAh battery and supports 45W charging. Lenovo uses 10200mAh and Lenovo quotes up to 12.5 hours of YouTube/Chrome use under its test conditions.
Manufacturer runtime figures are not directly interchangeable real-world battery tests. The larger Lenovo battery also powers a larger panel, so capacity alone should not decide the purchase.
When Xiaomi Pad 7 is the better fit
Choose Xiaomi when:
- an 11.2-inch, 500g tablet is easier to carry and hold;
- 8GB/256GB and Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 meet the workload;
- high refresh and sharp resolution matter more than a matte/paper-like surface;
- pen and keyboard can remain optional;
- expandable storage is not required.
When Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 is the better fit
Choose Lenovo when:
- a 13-inch workspace materially improves PDFs, split-screen or creative work;
- the matte/paper-like display treatment is valuable;
- 12GB memory and Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 provide useful extra headroom;
- Pen Plus included in the exact package matters;
- microSD or explicit DisplayPort-out is a requirement.
When neither is the obvious fit
If OLED is mandatory, neither product meets that requirement. If cellular is mandatory, neither governed reference meets it. If the workflow depends on iPadOS or Windows desktop software, settle the operating-system requirement before comparing these Android tablets.
PIQSY conclusion
Choose Xiaomi Pad 7 for the more portable high-refresh performance package. Choose Lenovo Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 for the larger matte workspace, stronger reference memory, included Pen Plus and expandable storage.
The Lenovo is not automatically better because it is bigger, and the Xiaomi is not automatically better because it is lighter. The right choice turns on whether your work benefits more from workspace and bundle completeness or portability.
