Best Dehumidifiers in Australia 2026: Match the Machine to the Moisture Problem

PIQSY's decision-first Australian dehumidifier guide maps 15 researched models to room size, temperature, laundry, drainage, purification, smart control and portability.

The decision this guide answers

Which Dehumidifier architecture and product best fits my room size, moisture load, temperature, laundry, noise, drainage, purification, smart-control and portability requirements?

Reviewed 26 Sept 202615 researched products

Start with the moisture problem

There is no useful universal number-one dehumidifier in this set. The right machine changes with room scale, moisture load, temperature, laundry use, noise tolerance, drainage, air-purification needs, smart control and portability.

Use the roles below as decision branches rather than a ranking.

The fast decision map

1. Is the room genuinely small, medium or large?

Do not buy capacity in isolation. Start with the room and moisture problem, then use manufacturer room guidance as orientation rather than a harmonised cross-brand sizing standard.

For a smaller connected compressor, compare AusClimate ACD212 with Breville LAD208. For the 20L class, compare Midea MDDM20, AusClimate ACD220 and Breville LAD308. For higher-capacity use, the shortlist extends to AusClimate ACD235, Philips DE3306/71, De'Longhi DD230P and the larger Ionmax hybrids.

2. Will the room be cool enough that architecture matters?

The current desiccant branch is AusClimate ACD200, Ionmax ION610 and Ionmax ION630. Their published extraction figures are stated at 20°C/60% RH, while many compressor models in this shortlist publish headline extraction at warmer, more humid conditions.

Read Compressor vs Desiccant Dehumidifiers before comparing litre-per-day headlines across unlike test conditions.

3. Are you using the bucket or a drain hose?

Tank size changes the ownership routine. Midea MDDM20 has a 12L collection tank; AusClimate ACD220 has 4L; AusClimate ACD235 has 5L. Compact products such as ACD212 and Karmotte AS-280 use much smaller tanks, making verified continuous drainage more important for long runs.

If condensate must be lifted to a difficult drain point, De'Longhi DD230P is the specialist because its published Australian information includes an integrated condensate pump.

4. Is air purification a real second job?

Do not pay for a purifier hybrid merely because it has more features.

Ionmax ION626 combines dehumidification with H13 HEPA and 210m³/h published CADR. ION651 scales that hybrid architecture to 300m³/h CADR and much higher nominal extraction, but it is also an 18.3kg machine.

De'Longhi DDSX220WF-WH adds E12 filtration rather than the H13 architecture used by the Ionmax hybrids.

5. Is the bedroom the real use case?

Bedroom fit is not a contest for the smallest printed dB number. Room size, temperature, tank or drainage workflow and how the manufacturer states its noise figure all matter.

Read Best Dehumidifier for a Bedroom for the smaller-room decision path.

6. Do you need app control?

Connected control is verified on several AusClimate, Breville, Midea, De'Longhi and Ionmax models, but not on every product. Treat app control as a workflow requirement rather than evidence of better moisture removal.

7. Will you move the unit between rooms?

Weight and dimensions matter once a dehumidifier becomes a shared household appliance. The Ionmax ION610 at 5.1kg and Karmotte AS-280 at 6.9kg are easier to relocate than the larger high-capacity platforms.

The 15 roles in practical terms

Midea MDDM20 — the large-tank 20L route

Choose it when the 12L collection tank and Wi-Fi matter more than having every drainage and test-condition field resolved. Its current Australian information states 20L/day, but does not publish the extraction test condition.

Read the Midea MDDM20 Verdict or compare it with ACD220.

AusClimate ACD200 — connected cool-season desiccant

Choose it when a 10L/day desiccant rating at 20°C/60% RH, Wi-Fi, laundry mode and continuous drainage match the job. Its official page gives conflicting operating-temperature ranges, so there is no single reliable figure to use as a hard threshold.

Read the ACD200 Verdict or compare ACD200 with ION610.

AusClimate ACD212 — compact smart compressor

Choose it for a genuinely smaller room when 12L/day at 30°C/80% RH, compact dimensions, Wi-Fi and continuous drainage make sense. The 2L tank is the trade-off.

Read the ACD212 Verdict or compare it with Breville LAD208.

AusClimate ACD220 — balanced 20L smart workflow

Choose it when you want 20L/day at 30°C/80% RH, a 4L tank, Wi-Fi, laundry mode and continuous drainage in a conventional medium-room platform.

Read the ACD220 Verdict.

AusClimate ACD235 — simple high-capacity smart dehumidification

Choose it when the main job is moisture removal: 35L/day at 30°C/80% RH, a 5L tank, Wi-Fi, laundry mode and drainage without purifier-hybrid complexity.

Read the ACD235 Verdict or compare it with Philips DE3306/71.

Karmotte AS-280 — light compact marketplace challenger

Choose it when 6.9kg weight, laundry mode and continuous drainage matter and you are comfortable with thinner local support and limited reliable owner feedback. Its 10L/day claim is stated at 35°C/90% RH, so do not equate it directly with 10L figures measured under different conditions.

Read the Karmotte AS-280 Verdict or compare it with Breville LAD208.

Breville LAD208 — connected small-room mainstream choice

Choose it when you value the two published extraction points: 10L/day at 30°C/80% RH and 5L/day at 27°C/60% RH, plus Wi-Fi/Bluetooth and continuous gravity drainage.

Read the LAD208 Verdict.

Breville LAD308 — connected 20L step-up

Choose it when the larger room or moisture load justifies 20L/day at 30°C/80% RH and 10L/day at 27°C/60% RH while keeping Breville's connected-control and gravity-drain workflow.

Read the LAD308 Verdict or compare LAD208 with LAD308.

De'Longhi DDSX220WF-WH — E12 filtration added to dehumidification

Choose it when 21L/day at 30°C/80% RH, Wi-Fi and E12 filtration belong in the same appliance. Continuous drainage is not clearly stated in the current Australian information we checked.

Read the DDSX220WF-WH Verdict.

De'Longhi DD230P — pump-assisted drainage specialist

Choose it when the installation needs an integrated condensate pump. Its published Australian information combines 30L/day at 32°C/80% RH, continuous drainage and pump-assisted condensate removal.

Read the DD230P Verdict or compare DD230P with ION651.

Ionmax ION610 — light small-room desiccant

Choose it when a 5.1kg, 6L/day desiccant model at 20°C/60% RH is enough and app control is not required.

Read the ION610 Verdict.

Ionmax ION630 — larger-tank 10L desiccant

Choose it when you want 10L/day at 20°C/60% RH with a much larger 4.2L tank. It has no Wi-Fi.

Read the ION630 Verdict or compare ION610 with ION630.

Ionmax ION626 — moderate H13 hybrid

Choose it when dehumidification and H13 filtration genuinely need to share one appliance. Ionmax publishes 25L/day without HEPA and 20L/day with HEPA, plus 210m³/h CADR.

Read the ION626 Verdict.

Ionmax ION651 — scale-first H13 hybrid

Choose it when a large space genuinely needs the bigger hybrid platform: 50L/day nominally without HEPA and 40L/day with HEPA, 300m³/h CADR, PM2.5 monitoring and Wi-Fi.

Read the ION651 Verdict or compare ION626 with ION651.

Philips DE3306/71 — mainstream high-capacity alternative

Choose it when the verified 34.3L/day nominal extraction, 4L tank and laundry function cover the job. Wi-Fi, continuous drainage and the extraction test condition are not clearly stated in the current Australian information we checked.

Read the Philips DE3306/71 Verdict.

Keep extraction test conditions attached

A litre-per-day claim is only meaningful in the context in which it was measured. A desiccant model quoted at 20°C/60% RH should not be ranked directly against a compressor quoted at 30°C/80% RH or 35°C/90% RH as if the numbers came from one standard laboratory condition.

That is why PIQSY uses extraction numbers to understand the exact product, but does not turn mixed-condition manufacturer claims into a universal performance leaderboard.

Price and popularity come last

They do not determine how well a product fits your needs.

Use this sequence instead: room and moisture problem → temperature and architecture → drainage/tank workflow → purification requirement → noise/control/portability → owner-feedback confidence → then current price and availability.

For a personalised shortlist, use PIQSY Match.

PIQSY conclusion

The best dehumidifier is the one that matches the room, temperature and moisture workflow first, then clears the ownership constraints you actually care about. The shortlist is intentionally situational rather than ranked.
