Decision reasoning
Why the choice changes.
What you'll actually notice
Choose LAD208 for a genuinely small-room brief. Choose LAD308 when the room or moisture load justifies moving from the 10L to the 20L platform.
The two Brevilles feel very similar to use because the connected-control, laundry and gravity-drain workflows are largely shared. What changes is scale. LAD208 publishes 10L/day at 30°C/80% RH and 5L/day at 27°C/60% RH; LAD308 doubles those figures to 20L/day and 10L/day at the same conditions.
You therefore do not need to decode two unrelated feature lists. The useful question is whether the room and moisture load have moved far enough beyond the LAD208 brief to make the larger body, 3.5L tank and broader room guidance of LAD308 worthwhile.
What changes the choice
Capacity is the cleanest difference
LAD208 is rated at 10L/day at 30°C/80% RH and 5L/day at 27°C/60% RH. LAD308 doubles both published figures to 20L/day and 10L/day under the same respective conditions.
Room guidance scales with the larger model
Breville guides LAD208 up to 30m² and LAD308 up to 50m². Those are manufacturer sizing claims, but they reinforce that the two models serve different room scales rather than being interchangeable trim levels.
The control workflow is largely shared
Both support Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, laundry mode and continuous gravity drainage. LAD308 increases tank size from 2.5L to 3.5L, so the upgrade case is mainly capacity and room scale rather than a completely different feature set.
The upgrade only pays off when the room or moisture load changes
Because the two models share Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, laundry mode and gravity drainage, moving to LAD308 does not buy a fundamentally different control experience. It buys more extraction, a larger tank and broader manufacturer room guidance. That makes the upgrade easier to justify for a medium room or heavier moisture load, but harder to justify when the LAD208 already fits the space. Choosing the larger model simply for a bigger number can leave you paying for capacity you do not need.
What this means: Breville has made the upgrade path unusually easy to read. The extra money and size mainly buy more dehumidification capacity and room headroom, not a different app or drainage concept. That protects the smaller model from becoming the default “budget” option and the larger model from becoming the automatic “better” option.
Switch when: choose LAD308 when the room is medium-sized, the moisture load is heavier or laundry use is frequent enough that the 20L platform will be used. Stay with LAD208 when its 30m² manufacturer guidance and 10L class already fit the job.
The practical choice
The simplest way to choose is to ignore the model hierarchy and size the room honestly. If LAD208 already covers the space, LAD308's extra capacity may add weight and cost without changing your control routine. If you are regularly pushing beyond a small-room brief, the larger model becomes much easier to justify.
The second published extraction points reinforce that discipline. Both models show a large drop under the milder 27°C/60% RH condition, which is a reminder that real collection depends on conditions. Buy the right platform, not the most impressive headline.
A useful restraint check is to ask whether the LAD308 would change anything about how you operate the dehumidifier. If the same small room, same drain point and same light moisture load remain, the answer may be no. If the room is larger or laundry drying regularly pushes the smaller model harder, the extra capacity becomes a functional upgrade rather than a model-number upgrade.
When to choose Breville LAD208
Choose LAD208 when the room is genuinely small and the 10L platform already covers the moisture problem without paying for unnecessary capacity.
LAD208 is the more efficient decision when your room genuinely sits in the smaller class and you still want Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, laundry mode and gravity drainage. Its 2.5L tank is modest, but a hose can remove most of that disadvantage during long runs.
When to choose Breville LAD308
Choose LAD308 when a medium-room or heavier laundry brief justifies the 20L platform and larger 3.5L tank.
LAD308 earns the upgrade when the room or moisture load needs the extra capacity, not because its app experience is better. The 3.5L tank gives a little more bucket autonomy, but the main gain is the 20L/10L published extraction pair and broader manufacturer room guidance.
Choose neither when
If the room is cold enough that desiccant operation is the priority, or if you need H13 purification or pump drainage, compare a different architecture.
Move outside the Breville pair when architecture changes the problem: desiccant for a cooler-room brief, H13/E12 filtration when air cleaning is a second job, or pump drainage when gravity cannot reach the drain.
PIQSY conclusion
This is a sizing decision more than a feature decision: LAD208 for smaller rooms, LAD308 when the extra extraction and room guidance are genuinely useful.
