Biggest reason to buy

Its 50L/day nominal extraction combines H13 filtration, PM2.5 monitoring and Wi-Fi for large spaces.

Main compromise

At 18.3kg, it is a large appliance to move regularly.

What matters

Why it earns consideration — and why you might skip it.

Who it fits

The ION651 is the scale-first hybrid. Ionmax states 50L/day nominal extraction without HEPA and 40L/day with HEPA, plus H13 filtration, 300m³/h CADR, PM2.5 monitoring and Wi-Fi.

That combination only makes sense when the space and workload justify it. At 18.3kg and 659mm tall, this is not the machine to buy simply because the headline capacity is the biggest.

The ION651 makes sense only when scale is part of the problem. Its larger extraction, 300m³/h CADR, 5L tank, PM2.5 monitoring and Wi-Fi all point toward a machine that will live in one substantial space rather than move casually between rooms. If the room does not need that platform, the smaller ION626 can deliver the same basic H13-hybrid concept with less physical commitment.

That is the useful restraint check: choose ION651 because the moisture load and air-cleaning job both justify it, not because the largest numbers feel safer.

What changes the decision

Large-space fit comes before the 50L headline

Ionmax gives guidance up to 120m² / 300m³. The ION651 is coherent when a large space genuinely needs high extraction; it is unnecessary overkill for a small bedroom.

The HEPA trade-off is explicit

Ionmax publishes 40L/day with HEPA fitted versus 50L/day nominally without it. That makes the hybrid operating trade-off visible rather than hiding it behind separate feature claims.

Weight changes how permanent the placement feels

At 18.3kg, this is better treated as a machine you position deliberately rather than one you casually carry between rooms.

The large-space role is bounded by published room and temperature guidance

Ionmax gives guidance up to 120m² / 300m³ and a 5–35°C operating range. That is the scale at which the ION651's size and capacity start to make sense. The figures remain manufacturer guidance rather than an independent sizing guarantee, so a smaller room should not be pushed toward this model simply because the headline extraction number is higher.

Tank and drainage workflow.

A 5L bucket is substantial, yet it sits inside a machine with 50L/day nominal extraction and a continuous-drain option. For sustained high-moisture use, drainage reduces the practical burden of the very capacity you are buying. The tank remains valuable when a hose is inconvenient or when the unit only runs for shorter periods.

Separate the hybrid metrics instead of treating them as one performance score

Ionmax publishes H13 filtration, 300m³/h CADR, PM2.5 monitoring, 49dB(A) maximum noise and 450W maximum power. The important limitation is that the Australian information we checked does not state the test temperature and humidity behind the 50L/day headline, while the 40L/day figure with HEPA fitted is explicitly published. That supports a powerful hybrid proposition, but not a universal cross-brand ranking on extraction, acoustics, purification or efficiency.

The 18.3kg weight and 659 x 384 x 283mm body reinforce the same large-space logic. This is best treated as a deliberately placed appliance; buying it for occasional small-room use would leave much of its capacity and hybrid hardware solving a problem that is not present.

PM2.5 monitoring context.

The built-in PM2.5 monitoring gives you feedback about airborne particle levels, which is useful when the purifier function is part of the reason for buying. It should not be confused with cleaning power, though. The 300m³/h CADR and H13 filter describe the air-cleaning side of the appliance; the PM2.5 reading tells you what the sensor sees.

That distinction matters because this product carries several large numbers at once. A 50L/day moisture figure, 300m³/h CADR and 120m² / 300m³ room guidance describe different parts of the job. They should not be blended into one idea of “powerful”.

Smart-mode context.

Wi-Fi, automatic mode, silent mode and continuous laundry mode make more sense on a machine this large than they would on a basic portable unit. Once the ION651 has a regular location, remote control and automatic behaviour can reduce how often you need to interact with an 18.3kg appliance directly.

Silent mode still needs realistic expectations. Ionmax publishes a 49dB(A) maximum, and there is no separate sound figure here that proves silent mode will suit every bedroom. Treat the mode as a control option, not a guarantee of near-silent operation.

The biggest question is whether one hybrid replaces two separate appliances for you

The ION651 is easiest to justify when a large space genuinely needs both heavy moisture removal and H13 particle filtration. In that situation, one connected machine with PM2.5 monitoring can be a coherent solution. If only one of those jobs is important, the size, weight and hybrid complexity become harder to justify against a simpler dehumidifier or a dedicated air purifier.

Who should choose something else

This is not the automatic choice for every dehumidifier shopper. The better route changes when room scale, operating conditions, drainage, filtration or control requirements change.

  • Choose AusClimate ACD235 when you want high-capacity smart dehumidification without purifier-hybrid complexity.
  • Choose De'Longhi DD230P when pump-assisted drainage matters more than H13 filtration and app control.

PIQSY conclusion

Choose ION651 when you genuinely need very high extraction plus H13 filtration and smart monitoring in a large-space appliance.

Choose a smaller dehumidifier when portability, compact placement or simple moisture control matters more than maximum capacity.
