Decision reasoning
Why the choice changes.
What you'll actually notice
Choose ION626 when you want H13 purification in a medium-to-large-room dehumidifier. Choose ION651 when the space genuinely justifies much higher extraction and 300m³/h CADR.
Both models combine dehumidification with H13 filtration, so the visible difference is scale rather than architecture. ION626 publishes 25L/day without HEPA and 20L/day with HEPA, plus 210m³/h CADR. ION651 moves to 50L/day nominally without HEPA, 40L/day with HEPA and 300m³/h CADR.
That makes the larger model tempting, but it also weighs 18.3kg and carries a 5L tank versus 14.8kg and 2.9L on ION626. The practical question is whether your room genuinely needs the larger hybrid platform, not whether the biggest numbers look safer on paper.
What changes the choice
Both publish the HEPA extraction trade-off
ION626 is stated at 25L/day without HEPA and 20L/day with HEPA. ION651 is 50L/day nominally without HEPA and 40L/day with HEPA. That makes the cost of running the purifier configuration explicit on both.
ION651 scales the whole platform
ION626 publishes 210m³/h CADR and guidance up to 80m²/200m³; ION651 publishes 300m³/h CADR and guidance up to 120m²/300m³. Those manufacturer room figures remain guidance, but the larger model is clearly built for a bigger workload.
Size and tank capacity move with the performance tier
ION626 weighs 14.8kg with a 2.9L tank. ION651 weighs 18.3kg with a 5L tank. Both provide Wi-Fi, H13 filtration, laundry mode and continuous drainage.
Bigger hybrid numbers also mean a bigger ownership footprint
ION651 raises extraction, CADR, tank size and manufacturer room guidance together, but it also moves from 14.8kg to 18.3kg. That is a meaningful shift in how the appliance will live in the home. If the room and moisture load genuinely need the larger platform, the extra scale is coherent. If not, ION626 preserves the same basic H13/Wi-Fi hybrid concept in a smaller package and avoids buying capacity that mainly adds size and weight.
What this means: the pair gives you the same basic proposition at two scales: connected dehumidification plus H13 filtration. The larger model increases extraction, CADR, tank size and room guidance together, but it also increases the physical commitment. If the room does not need the extra platform, ION626 preserves the hybrid benefits without buying unused capacity.
Switch when: move to ION651 when both the moisture load and air-cleaning workload justify the larger numbers. Stay with ION626 when the same two jobs need to happen in a more moderate space and a smaller machine is easier to place.
The practical choice
Treat this as a sizing decision inside one hybrid family. First decide whether you actually need H13 filtration in the same appliance as the dehumidifier. If you do, then use room scale, moisture load and placement to choose between the two.
The published with-HEPA extraction figures are particularly useful because they show the moisture-removal trade-off while the filters are fitted. That is more informative than assuming the purifier function is free. The larger ION651 still only makes sense when the room can use what it adds.
Also separate the air-cleaning requirement from the room-size requirement. A larger CADR does not automatically mean you need ION651 if the room is moderate, and a smaller machine does not automatically mean the ION626 is the better value. The right step is to confirm that both humidity and particle cleaning matter, then choose the platform that matches the actual space rather than buying the highest tier for reassurance.
When to choose Ionmax ION626
Choose ION626 when the room and humidity load fit its 25L/20L-with-HEPA class and you want the smaller of the two hybrid platforms.
ION626 is the more balanced route when you want one appliance to manage humidity and particles but do not need the largest platform in the range. Its 210m³/h CADR and 20L/day with HEPA are already substantial enough that a smaller or medium-to-large room should not automatically be pushed to ION651.
When to choose Ionmax ION651
Choose ION651 when a large space genuinely benefits from 50L nominal extraction, 40L with HEPA and the higher 300m³/h CADR.
ION651 is the scale-first option. Choose it when the larger space and moisture load genuinely justify 40L/day with HEPA, 300m³/h CADR and the bigger tank. The 18.3kg weight makes that decision easier to defend when the unit will have a stable home rather than move frequently.
Choose neither when
If purification is unnecessary, a simpler dehumidifier may be easier to justify; if frequent carrying matters, both are relatively heavy machines.
Choose neither if purification is not a real second job. A simpler dehumidifier can avoid filter complexity and weight. Also look elsewhere when frequent carrying is central to the brief; both hybrids are substantial appliances.
PIQSY conclusion
ION626 is the more moderate hybrid; ION651 is the scale-first hybrid. The larger model is not automatically better unless the room and moisture load need it.
