For bushfire smoke, the useful starting point is not the brand or the largest room claim. It is whether the purifier can move enough indoor air through an appropriate particle filter for the actual room volume, while smoke entry is reduced as far as practical.
NSW Health advises considering a HEPA-filter air purifier for smoke and says it should be appropriately sized and used in a small, well-sealed area to work well. EPA Victoria similarly advises using a HEPA portable air cleaner and reducing smoke entry where possible.

Start with clean-air throughput
Bushfire smoke contains fine particles as well as gases and other compounds. A portable purifier's particle filter only works on the air that passes through it, so clean-air flow matters.

Do not size smoke filtration from a 1-ACH headline
A large floor-area claim can be legitimate while still representing very slow turnover.
Shark HP300, for example, is advertised at 130 m² at 1 ACH and about 28 m² at 4.8 ACH. Dyson HushJet's 100 m² claim is also based on 1 ACH.
That is why square-metre headlines should not be compared at face value for smoke. The assumed turnover can change the apparent room size dramatically without changing the purifier itself.
Room volume is the real sizing job
A 35 m² room with a 2.4 m ceiling is not the same air-cleaning job as 35 m² under a high raked ceiling.
Estimate:
room volume = floor area × ceiling height
Then use resolved clean-air flow, where available, to understand the likely turnover. There is no single universal ACH target presented here as medical advice; the durable point is that faster repeated turnover requires more clean-air flow, a smaller room, or both.
Airmega 400 has the cleanest high-throughput evidence

That makes it straightforward to size against room volume. Buyers who require an app may still prefer Breville or Levoit, because Coway's simpler local workflow is a separate decision from throughput.

Breville LAP608 combines resolved airflow with connected control
LAP608 provides 530 m³/h CADR, PM2.5 automatic operation and Home Connect app control.
That is a coherent fit when you want measurable medium-to-high throughput and connected monitoring/control in the same product.
Microbe Shield and Breville's antiviral filter-material test claims are not used as the reason to recommend it for bushfire smoke. The smoke decision rests on particle filtration, airflow evidence and room fit.
Core 400S is the resolved smart medium-room option
Core 400S has a resolved 433 m³/h CADR, PM2.5 sensing, schedules and VeSync control.
It fits best where that airflow is enough for the room and the connected workflow matters. A lower CADR than Airmega 400 is not a defect; it is a sizing difference.
Core 600S is the larger smart role with an unresolved number
Core 600S clearly occupies the higher-throughput Levoit role, but the current manufacturer material gives 600, 697 and 711 m³/h in different places.
If a smart high-throughput purifier is the priority and you can accept that evidence caveat, it remains relevant. If one resolved CADR is mandatory, choose a cleaner evidence case.

NSW Health advises closing windows and doors when smoke is outside, using recirculation where appropriate, avoiding indoor pollution sources, and considering a suitably sized HEPA purifier. EPA Victoria likewise emphasises keeping smoke out and using portable HEPA filtration if available.
A high-CADR purifier in a room with continuous smoke infiltration is doing a different job from the same purifier in a better-sealed room.
