Who it fits

The iPad Pro M5 makes sense when a Pro-specific capability changes your workflow, not simply because it is the highest-tier iPad. Its strongest reasons to exist are the Ultra Retina XDR Tandem OLED display, ProMotion from 10Hz to 120Hz, M5 performance, Thunderbolt/USB 4, Apple Pencil Pro support and the wider professional media-and-display workflow around them.

What changes the decision

The Tandem OLED display is the clearest Pro-only reason to step up

The 11-inch iPad Pro uses Apple's Ultra Retina XDR Tandem OLED panel at 2420×1668 and 264ppi, with P3 colour, True Tone, full lamination and an antireflective coating. That changes the purchase for people whose work genuinely benefits from high contrast, HDR capability, high refresh rate or a more display-led drawing and editing experience. It matters much less if the tablet is primarily for browsing, streaming, email, schoolwork and ordinary note-taking.

M5 configuration depends on storage tier

The 256GB and 512GB M5 iPad Pro models use a 9-core CPU, 10-core GPU and 12GB unified memory. Moving to 1TB or 2TB changes the hardware configuration to a 10-core CPU and 16GB unified memory. All listed M5 configurations retain the 16-core Neural Engine and 153GB/s memory bandwidth.

This distinction prevents a common specification shortcut: the 256GB reference should not inherit the 16GB-memory claim from higher-storage models.
