The decision

Choose the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute when you want Dyson's Detect workflow in the lighter 3.1kg machine and up to 60 minutes stated runtime is enough.

Choose the Dyson Gen5detect when the extra 70-minute stated runtime is genuinely useful enough to justify a heavier 3.5kg flagship.

Both current records include whole-machine HEPA filtration, so HEPA presence is not the reason to move up.

What actually separates them

Gen5's clearest step-up is runtime

The V15 is rated for up to 60 minutes. Gen5detect moves to 70 minutes. That extra headroom can matter in larger homes or when one uninterrupted clean is a hard requirement.

If 60-minute-class runtime already covers your normal session, the reason to pay more becomes much weaker.

The flagship step-up also adds weight

The V15 is listed at 3.1kg; Gen5detect at 3.5kg. Four hundred grams is meaningful during stairs, repeated carrying and prolonged above-floor work.

The newer model is therefore not automatically the easier machine to own.

The cleaning philosophy is broadly the same

Both records centre on hard-floor illumination and automatic response to detected debris. If the Detect concept itself is what you want, the V15 already gives you that core workflow.
