Who it fits

The Dyson Gen5detect Absolute is the flagship Dyson to choose when long stated runtime and the Detect feedback concept both matter enough to justify a heavier machine. Dyson states up to 70 minutes and lists the product at 3.5kg.

The most important correction to a simple flagship story is filtration: the current V15 Detect Absolute record already includes whole-machine HEPA filtration. PIQSY therefore does not tell you to step up to Gen5detect merely to obtain HEPA.

Best for

Choose it for larger homes, longer cleaning sessions and buyers who value hard-floor illumination, automatic suction response, hair-focused tools and whole-machine HEPA in one flagship package.

Not ideal for

It is a poor fit when carrying weight is a major concern, when 60-minute-class runtime is already enough, or when the premium convenience you actually want is auto-emptying rather than more cleaning feedback.

Extra runtime is the clearest verified step up from V15

The Gen5detect keeps Dyson's dust-visibility and automatic-response concept while extending the maximum runtime from the V15's 60-minute class to up to 70 minutes.

That is useful when a larger home or longer cleaning route genuinely pushes a 60-minute machine. PIQSY does not award a flagship bonus simply because the Gen5detect sits above the V15 in the range.

The Detect workflow still needs to matter to you

Fluffy Optic hard-floor illumination and automatic suction adjustment make sense when visible feedback and automatic response help you decide where to clean and how much attention an area needs.

If you mostly do short, predictable cleans and would not use the feedback to change your behaviour, a simpler machine can deliver a better ownership experience despite having fewer features.

Seventy-minute-class runtime trades against 3.5kg handling

The 3.5kg stated weight is the Gen5detect's most important counterweight. Long runtime is valuable on a large floor plan; added mass is felt on stairs, during ceiling work and whenever the machine spends more time off the floor.

This is why the Gen5detect should not automatically replace the V15 for every buyer who can afford it. The extra ten minutes of stated maximum headroom needs to solve a real problem.

HEPA is a capability, not the V15-versus-Gen5 differentiator

Whole-machine HEPA filtration is verified for Gen5detect and remains a meaningful requirement for some households. But the current V15 Detect Absolute record also includes whole-machine HEPA filtration.

PIQSY therefore keeps filtration as a supported feature without using its presence to justify the upsell. The comparison should turn on runtime, weight and how much the flagship platform matters to your cleaning routine.

Flagship status still does not automate emptying

The Gen5detect uses a 0.77L bin and does not have a auto-empty dock. You still empty the bin and maintain the filtration system yourself.

Flagship endurance is useful only when you regularly consume it

Gen5detect combines up to 70 minutes stated runtime, a 0.77L bin and a 3.5kg stated weight. That makes it an endurance-led flagship rather than a universally easier cordless vacuum. The extra runtime headroom is most coherent in larger homes, longer uninterrupted cleans or routines where stopping to recharge is a genuine source of friction.

The same architecture can be unnecessary in a smaller home. If a 60-minute-class V15 already covers the normal clean, the additional ten-minute headline does not automatically compensate for the heavier machine. The 3.5kg body will be felt on stairs, during repeated lifts and in extended above-floor work every time you clean. Gen5detect therefore makes the strongest case when runtime is a recurring constraint you already experience, while its Detect and HEPA feature set matches the cleaning workflow you actually want.

Its 0.77L bin also means the flagship step-up is not buying extra onboard capacity versus the V15. If your main frustration is frequent bin emptying rather than battery endurance, a docked auto-empty architecture solves a different problem more directly.
