Choose the Breville Oracle Jet BES985 when you want a real 58 mm portafilter workflow but want the machine to automate most of the repetitive preparation around it.

Breville combines automatic grind, dose and tamp, 45 grind settings, a 58 mm portafilter with a 22 g stated dose, touchscreen guidance, Auto MilQ, and dedicated Cold Espresso and Cold Brew programs. That is fundamentally different from a conventional bean-to-cup automatic: the coffee path still revolves around a removable portafilter.

Skip it when you actually want one-touch coffee with no portafilter handling, when manual control and a separate grinder are part of the appeal, or when its 36.8 W × 38.1 D × 42.5 H cm body is too large for the bench.

It automates around a portafilter, not instead of one

Oracle Jet's defining architecture is the 58 mm portafilter. The machine automatically grinds, doses and tamps into that portafilter, but the user still removes it, locks it into the group head, starts the coffee workflow and disposes of the puck afterwards.

That gives the buyer more visible espresso process than a Magnifica or Eletta internal brew group, while removing much of the repetitive preparation of a Dual Boiler or traditional grinder-plus-machine setup.

The 58 mm / 22 g pathway is an architecture fact, not a quality guarantee

Breville specifies a 58 mm stainless-steel portafilter with a 22 g stated dose and Baratza precision burrs with 45 grind settings.

Auto MilQ makes milk convenience unusually high for a portafilter machine

Auto MilQ provides hands-free milk texturing with adjustable temperature and texture. That removes manual steam-wand technique from a workflow that otherwise retains a portafilter.

Cleaning still follows a portafilter-plus-milk system

Automation does not remove coffee oils, grounds or milk contact. Routine care includes the portafilter and baskets, group area, drip tray, grinder path, Auto MilQ steam system, water filter and descaling/cleaning cycles.

The machine automates preparation; it does not automate all ownership maintenance.
