Decision reasoning

Why the choice changes.

The practical choice

Choose the Nespresso Creatista Plus BNE800 if you want Nespresso Original capsule convenience plus automatic milk texturing and do not want to grind, dose or tamp coffee.

Choose the Breville Bambino Plus BES500 if you are ready to move to fresh-bean portafilter espresso and are comfortable adding a separate grinder, while still keeping automatic milk texturing.

The central question is therefore not which machine has the more sophisticated milk system. Both reduce milk effort. The real divide is capsule coffee versus fresh-bean puck preparation.

Creatista Plus removes coffee preparation work

Creatista Plus uses Nespresso Original capsules. There is no grinder, dosing or tamping step. Insert a capsule, select the drink workflow and let the machine handle the coffee side while its automatic steam wand manages milk texture and temperature.

That is the correct route when consistency and low morning friction matter more than learning espresso preparation.

The trade-off is equally structural: the coffee side remains capsule-based. Buying Creatista Plus does not create a fresh-bean pathway later; it commits the ownership experience to the Original capsule ecosystem.

Bambino Plus moves the coffee side to a real portafilter

Bambino Plus uses a 54 mm portafilter with Breville's stated 18 g dose target. It does not include a grinder.

That means a separate grinder is not an optional accessory if whole beans are the goal. The grinder affects the total budget, the total bench space and the daily workflow.

The upside is that the user gains fresh-bean control over grind and dose rather than being locked to a capsule. The downside is that the machine no longer provides capsule-level preparation simplicity.

Both automate milk, but in different ways

Creatista Plus provides an automatic steam wand with eight milk texture levels and 11 milk-temperature settings.

Bambino Plus provides automatic milk texturing with three temperature settings and three texture levels, while also retaining a manual texturing option.

Creatista therefore offers a finer automatic adjustment menu. Bambino Plus offers less menu granularity but gives the user a manual path if they want to take over milk texturing.

Neither point establishes better-tasting milk by itself. The relevant question is whether the user values more automatic settings or the option to intervene manually.

Footprint has to include the Bambino grinder

Creatista Plus measures 17.1 W × 39.3 D × 30.8 H cm.

Bambino Plus measures 19.5 W × 32 D × 31 H cm.

Looking only at the espresso machine, Bambino is shallower but slightly wider. Looking at the real fresh-bean setup, Bambino also needs a grinder beside it or nearby.

That is why PIQSY does not call Bambino Plus the smaller total system without qualification. The machine itself is compact; the espresso setup may not be once a capable grinder is added.

Heat-up is effectively a tie

Both are specified with a three-second heat-up.

That number is useful, but the total morning routine is still very different. Creatista users choose a capsule and start the drink. Bambino users grind beans, dose the basket, distribute/tamp, lock in the portafilter and then extract.

The real time difference is workflow complexity, not heater warm-up.

Water capacity favours the Bambino, but workflow matters more

Creatista Plus uses a 1.5 L water tank. Bambino Plus uses a 1.9 L tank.

The larger Bambino tank can reduce refill frequency, but the more important throughput question is what the household is doing between drinks. Fresh-bean preparation adds repeated manual steps that capsule preparation avoids.

For several milk drinks in succession, the user should therefore compare the whole sequence—grinding, puck preparation, extraction, milk, knock-out and cleanup—not just tank capacity.

Cleaning is not equally simple

Creatista Plus avoids grinder and portafilter cleanup. The automatic steam wand includes an auto-purge function, though the wand still requires normal care and the capsule bin, drip tray and water system need cleaning/descaling.

Bambino Plus adds portafilter baskets, puck disposal and grinder maintenance to the ownership routine. Its automatic milk system reduces milk effort, but it does not turn the coffee side into a capsule-like workflow.

When each product is the better fit

Choose Creatista Plus if

  • Nespresso Original capsule convenience is a feature, not a compromise;
  • automatic milk is important;
  • you do not want to own or dial in a grinder;
  • low preparation effort matters more than fresh-bean control;
  • you are comfortable with ongoing capsule purchasing.

Choose Bambino Plus if

  • fresh beans are the reason you are upgrading;
  • you are willing to buy a separate grinder;
  • you want a real 54 mm portafilter workflow;
  • automatic milk still matters;
  • you accept more puck-preparation and cleaning work.

The hidden cost decision

A machine-only price comparison can be misleading.

Creatista Plus's durable ownership cost includes ongoing Original capsules. Bambino Plus's real entry cost includes a grinder if one is not already owned, plus beans and normal espresso-machine consumables.

PIQSY therefore compares complete systems, not just the checkout price of the espresso machine.

PIQSY conclusion

Choose Creatista Plus when you want a premium version of capsule convenience, especially for milk drinks. Choose Bambino Plus when the objective is to leave capsules behind for fresh-bean espresso without giving up automatic milk.

If you are not genuinely ready to own a grinder and prepare a puck, the Bambino's fresh-bean potential will feel like friction rather than an upgrade.
