Decision reasoning

Why the choice changes.

The decision

Both Vornados are non-oscillating mains-powered air circulators, so neither is the right comparison if what you really want is a fan that sweeps a moving breeze across several people.

Choose the Vornado 660 when you want a simple four-speed circulator with physical controls, a larger body and Vornado's manufacturer-stated air movement up to 30.5 m.

Choose the Vornado 6303DC when you want much finer everyday control: 99 variable speeds, remote control, a 1–12 hour timer, digital display and a lighter 2.6 kg body.

What is actually the same

What matters most is Vornado's circulation architecture. Both are designed to be aimed in a fixed direction rather than oscillated side to side, using a focused stream to help recirculate room air.

In practice, that separates both models from a tower or pedestal fan bought primarily to pass a direct breeze over people across a wide seating area.

Both also carry Vornado Australia's five-year replacement warranty.

The differences that actually change the choice

Four speeds versus 99 is the central upgrade

The 660 uses four push-button speed settings. That is enough when you mostly choose a low, medium or high-ish level and leave the circulator running.

The 6303DC uses a brushless DC motor with 99 variable speeds. The difference is control granularity: small changes are easy when the fan is close to a desk, bed or sofa, or when the ideal setting changes through the day.

The 99-speed model is not automatically better. It becomes better when you regularly notice that one fixed step is too weak and the next is too strong.

Remote and timer convenience only exist on the governed 6303DC record

The 6303DC adds a remote control, digital display and 1–12 hour timer. The governed 660 record has no remote and no timer.

The convenience matters most when the circulator is across a room, aimed from a shelf or floor position, or used overnight. The 660 asks you to walk to the unit to change its setting; the 6303DC can be adjusted from where you are sitting or lying.

If that friction happens every day, the DC model solves a recurring problem. If the circulator normally stays on one setting, the added controls may not matter.

The 660 has the longer manufacturer-stated air-movement figure, but treat it as a manufacturer claim

Vornado states air movement up to 30.5 m for the 660 and up to 26 m for the 6303DC.

The figures help show how Vornado positions the products, but PIQSY does not treat the 4.5 m difference as independent proof that the 660 will circulate every real room better. They remain manufacturer-stated specifications rather than controlled PIQSY test results.

The practical reading is that choosing the 6303DC for finer control does not mean choosing a short-range personal fan; both are positioned as room circulators.

The 6303DC is smaller and lighter

The 660 is listed at 34.3 W × 29.8 D × 38 H cm and 3.3 kg.

The 6303DC is 30.7 W × 21.3 D × 36.5 H cm and 2.6 kg.

In practice, the 6303DC is easier to fit on shallower furniture and easier to move between rooms. The 660 is not exceptionally heavy, but its deeper body is worth checking if the intended location is a narrow shelf or small side table.

Maximum power is similar enough that control should drive the decision

The 660's governed maximum power is 56 W; the 6303DC is 53 W. The 6303DC's real differentiator is its DC motor and variable-speed control, not a dramatic reduction in the listed maximum wattage.

PIQSY does not infer household running-cost savings from those maximum figures alone because actual energy use depends on speed and operating time.

Choose Vornado 660 when

  • four physical speed levels are enough for your routine;
  • you want a straightforward circulator with no remote or digital controls to manage;
  • Vornado's longer 30.5 m manufacturer-stated air-movement figure is relevant to a large-room placement;
  • the larger 34.3 × 29.8 cm footprint fits comfortably where you intend to place it;
  • you value the five-year replacement warranty but do not need the 6303DC's control upgrades.

Choose Vornado 6303DC when

  • fine airflow adjustment is useful at a desk, bedside or changing room distance;
  • remote control prevents repeated trips to the fan;
  • a 1–12 hour timer is useful for overnight or scheduled-duration operation;
  • the smaller 30.7 × 21.3 cm footprint or lighter 2.6 kg body makes placement easier;
  • you want a DC circulator without moving to a smart-app ecosystem.

Neither is the obvious fit when

If you want the fan itself to sweep a direct breeze across a broad seating area, neither Vornado is built around that behaviour. A product such as the Shark TurboBlade Ultra uses 180° oscillation, while the Philips CX5535/00 is a conventional oscillating tower.

If you need cordless use, both Vornados are also the wrong architecture.

PIQSY conclusion

Choose the Vornado 660 when simplicity is the point: four speeds, fixed-direction whole-room circulation and a strong manufacturer-stated reach claim without remote or timer complexity.

Choose the Vornado 6303DC when control is the point: 99 speeds, remote, timer, digital display and a smaller/lighter body materially improve how you will use the circulator.

The 6303DC is not a universal upgrade. It is an upgrade when fine control and remote convenience solve a recurring problem; otherwise the 660 remains the more straightforward circulator.
