Shark Stratos vs PowerDetect Clean & Empty: Is the Auto-Empty Dock Worth the Space?
A decision-first comparison of Shark Stratos IZ400 and PowerDetect Clean & Empty IP3251 focused on the real ownership trade-off: pet-and-flex convenience without a dock versus 70-minute-class runtime and automatic emptying.
The decision
Is automatic emptying and longer-runtime PowerDetect ownership worth the permanent dock footprint over Shark Stratos?

Decision reasoning
Why the choice changes.
The decision
Choose the Shark Stratos IZ400ANZ when you want pet-hair tooling, Clean Sense IQ and MultiFLEX reach without giving permanent floor space to an auto-empty station.
Choose the Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty IP3251ANZ when automatic bin emptying and longer 70-minute-class runtime solve bigger ownership problems than dock footprint and system bulk create.
What actually separates them
The dock is the central upgrade
PowerDetect includes an auto-empty charging dock with a governed 2L dock dust capacity. That changes what happens after every clean: the onboard bin is emptied into a larger station rather than remaining a fully manual step.
If emptying a cordless bin is not a meaningful annoyance, much of the system's premium proposition disappears.
Dock convenience requires permanent floor space
The PowerDetect system is listed at 117.5H × 26W × 45.5D cm with dock and 8.4kg system weight. That is not a minor accessory footprint.
A dock only creates convenience when it can stay in a sensible charging location. If it has to be moved, hidden or unplugged constantly, the ownership benefit is compromised.
PowerDetect adds runtime; Stratos already solves flexible reach
Stratos is rated for up to 60 minutes and PowerDetect up to 70 minutes. Again, these are manufacturer maxima rather than a controlled ten-minute laboratory result.
Both also provide flexible under-furniture reach, so MultiFLEX alone is not a reason to buy the more expensive docked system.
The premium priorities differ
Stratos spends its complexity on the clean itself: pet tooling, sensing and flexible reach. PowerDetect spends more of its premium on ownership automation after the clean, while also adding its newer detection system.
That makes this an unusually clear choice once you identify which kind of friction bothers you more.
Choose the Stratos when
- pet hair and flexible reach are central needs;
- 60-minute-class runtime is enough;
- manual bin emptying does not bother you;
- you want to avoid a large permanent dock.

Choose the PowerDetect Clean & Empty when
- manual emptying is a recurring annoyance;
- you have a practical permanent dock location;
- 70-minute-class runtime matters;
- maintenance convenience is worth the larger system footprint.

PIQSY conclusion
Choose Stratos when you want a premium Shark that still behaves like a conventional cordless stick. Choose PowerDetect when the dock itself removes enough repeated maintenance friction to justify turning the vacuum into a larger cleaning system.
