Decision reasoning

Why the choice changes.

The decision

Both are mains-powered tower fans, but the purchase decision is less about tower versus tower than how much control and automation you actually want.

Choose the Philips CX5535/00 when you want a conventional remote-controlled tower with a verified 28–46 dB(A) manufacturer noise range, three speeds, Silent Sleep mode and 2230 m³/h manufacturer-stated airflow. Its case is straightforward: room airflow, bedtime controls and no app dependency.

Choose the Levoit 42-inch Smart Pro when 12 speed levels, VeSync control, Alexa/Google Assistant compatibility and temperature-linked automatic speed adjustment will be used regularly. Its advantage is finer and more automated control, not a proven cross-brand airflow or noise victory.

The differences that actually change the choice

Three speeds versus 12 is the most immediate day-to-day difference

Philips gives you three speed settings plus Normal, Natural Breeze and Silent Sleep modes. Levoit gives you 12 fan speeds. The difference matters if you often find one setting slightly too weak and the next one slightly too strong, or if you want airflow to change more gradually through the day.

The gap matters much less if you normally use a fan at low, medium or high and leave it there. In that routine, Philips' simpler control structure is not a deficiency you necessarily need to pay attention to.

So do not treat 12 speeds as automatically better. Treat them as useful only when fine airflow adjustment is a recurring need.

Levoit changes the ownership workflow because it is connected

Both products have a remote, but Levoit adds VeSync app control, Alexa and Google Assistant compatibility, and a built-in temperature sensor that can adjust fan speed automatically. It also has a 1–12 hour timer.

That can be genuinely useful when the fan sits across a room, runs to a schedule, or needs to react automatically as room temperature changes. It also creates a more connected ownership model: you are choosing app and smart-home capability because it solves a real control problem, not because connectivity is inherently superior.

Philips deliberately stays conventional. If you want to switch modes, set a timer and control the fan remotely without adding another appliance to an app, the CX5535/00 is the cleaner fit.

Philips has the stronger exact-model noise evidence; that is not the same as proving it is quieter

Philips publishes 28 dB(A) minimum and 46 dB(A) maximum for the exact CX5535/00 and includes a dedicated Silent Sleep mode. For PIQSY, that provides a clean evidence basis for describing low-speed bedroom use as part of the intended specification.

Levoit's Australian product page currently contains conflicting 20 dB and 25 dB low-speed statements. The canonical Levoit record therefore leaves its noise figure unverified, and PIQSY does not select one of those numbers to manufacture a comparison win.

The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: Philips has cleaner governed noise documentation. It does not prove that every Philips setting will sound quieter than every Levoit setting in your bedroom.

Do not compare 2230 m³/h with 7.9 m/s as though they are the same test

Philips states 2230 m³/h airflow. Levoit states up to 7.9 m/s maximum airspeed and up to 8 m range. Those are different manufacturer metrics describing different aspects of airflow.

PIQSY does not convert them into a synthetic league table or claim one fan moves more useful room air on the basis of incompatible measurements. If raw airflow performance is your overriding concern, this evidence does not support a clean cross-brand winner.

The evidence does support the architectural choice: Philips is a high-stated-airflow conventional tower; Levoit is a connected tower with finer speed control and stated long-range/high-speed airflow metrics.

Bedroom fit depends on the control routine you prefer

In a bedroom, Philips has a coherent package: Silent Sleep mode, a verified 28 dB(A) minimum, timer and remote. That is a strong fit when you want low-speed operation and simple bedside control.

Levoit may be the better bedroom workflow when app scheduling or temperature-linked adjustment would prevent you from manually changing the fan overnight. Its 12 speeds also give more control granularity.

The useful distinction is therefore not “quiet fan versus noisy fan.” The governed evidence does not support that claim. It is documented low-speed simplicity versus deeper automated control.

Choose Philips CX5535/00 when

  • you want a tower fan that works well through physical controls and a remote;
  • a verified manufacturer noise range and Silent Sleep mode matter more than app features;
  • three speeds are enough for the way you actually use a fan;
  • you prefer to avoid app, account or voice-assistant dependency;
  • the Philips' 31 × 31 cm floor footprint and 104.8 cm height work in your planned position.

Choose Levoit 42-inch Smart Pro when

  • you regularly want finer airflow adjustment than three speeds provide;
  • phone control, schedules or voice assistants solve a real convenience problem;
  • temperature-linked automatic fan-speed adjustment is useful in your room;
  • you want the fan to operate as part of a connected-home routine;
  • you are comfortable treating Levoit's current low-noise number as unresolved rather than using the conflicting marketing figures as a buying claim.

Neither is the obvious fit when

Neither tower is the natural first choice if you need cordless outdoor use, misting, hands-free personal cooling, or deliberate vertical aiming from an adjustable fan head. Those are different fan architectures rather than missing premium features.

If directable pedestal-style airflow matters, the Philips CX3550/01 is structurally different. If cordless indoor/outdoor flexibility matters, the Shark FlexBreeze Pro Mist solves a different job.

PIQSY conclusion

Choose the Philips CX5535/00 if you want the simpler tower-fan workflow: remote, timer, sleep-oriented controls, a clean exact-model noise specification and no smart-home layer.

Choose the Levoit 42-inch Smart Pro if control depth is the reason you are upgrading: 12 speeds, app and voice control, scheduling and temperature-linked automation materially change how the fan can run.

There is no evidence-grounded universal winner here. The upgrade that matters is not “more features”; it is whether automation and finer control solve a recurring problem in your room.
