Why the choice changes.

Quick decision

Choose the Midea MPPD40C when i-Sense / Follow Me remote temperature sensing is more important than inverter compressor control or built-in smart-home connectivity.

Choose the Kogan KASIPAC14YA when you want 4.1kW stated cooling, inverter control and built-in SmarterHome/Alexa/Google support.

Both are cooling-only. If reverse-cycle heating is mandatory, move to the Midea MPPD33H or Hyundai HY13KSPACPA instead.

The 0.1kW capacity gap is not the main decision

Midea is rated at 4.0kW cooling. Kogan is rated at 4.1kW / 14,000 BTU.

That 0.1kW difference is too small to carry this comparison by itself. Real heat load and installation fit matter more than treating 4.1 as categorically superior to 4.0.

The durable split is remote-location temperature sensing on Midea versus inverter architecture and built-in connected control on Kogan.

Midea's i-Sense solves sensor-location problems

MPPD40C supports i-Sense / Follow Me, allowing the remote to become the temperature reference close to the occupied part of the room.

If the unit sits beside a hot window but the sofa, desk or bed is elsewhere, this can be a useful control feature.

Kogan's governed record does not include an equivalent Follow Me function. Its connected-control advantages solve remote operation, not temperature-reference placement.

Kogan has the inverter advantage

KASIPAC14YA uses an inverter compressor. MPPD40C is governed as fixed-speed.

That architectural difference is meaningful even though PIQSY does not infer a universal electricity-saving percentage from it.

If compressor modulation is a hard requirement, Kogan is the clear choice between these two.

Kogan also has the stronger built-in smart-control stack

Kogan supports SmarterHome, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant and states a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi requirement for the app connection.

Midea's Wi-Fi is optional rather than standard in the governed Australian record.

If connected control is mandatory, Kogan is the simpler answer. If the user mainly wants the air conditioner to sense temperature near them, Midea's i-Sense can matter more than app feature count.

Weight favours Kogan, but neither is light

Midea's exact-model record lists 34kg. Kogan's current AU page lists 31kg.

A 3kg difference helps Kogan, but both are heavy floor appliances. Treat them as rollable on one level rather than convenient for repeated lifting.

Their full installed footprint is also larger than their cabinet dimensions because the exhaust hose and window connection require space.

Rated electrical input should not be used as a simplistic efficiency score

Midea's governed manual lists 2,000W cooling input.

Kogan's current AU sell-state page lists 1,757W cooling input.

Those figures are relevant specifications, but PIQSY does not use them alone to prove one unit is more efficient in every room or duty cycle. The products have different compressor architectures, test conditions and capacity figures, and a fair efficiency judgement requires more than subtracting input wattage.

Vendor room guidance points in different directions—and should stay attributed

Midea publishes 17–35m² guidance. Kogan publishes 28–33m² guidance.

Those ranges should not be treated as standardised side-by-side performance results. Their overlap and different lower bounds illustrate why vendor square-metre numbers are poor universal ranking tools.

PIQSY uses stated cooling capacity and room heat load as the durable sizing inputs and keeps each vendor range attributed.

Dehumidification is more strongly specified on Kogan

Kogan publishes 3.5L/h dehumidification and 480m³/h airflow.

Midea includes dehumidification mode but the current canonical comparison record does not carry a directly comparable exact L/h figure for MPPD40C.

PIQSY therefore does not invent a numeric Midea value to create a comparison. Kogan has the more explicit governed moisture-removal specification here.

Venting is a shared hard gate

Both are refrigerated portable ACs and require an external exhaust route for cooling.

Before debating i-Sense, inverter control or current price, confirm the intended window/door opening can support the exhaust arrangement.

Neither high capacity nor inverter control makes unvented refrigerated cooling a valid use case.
